Ballet in the Park

My apologies for not updating the site lately. I’ve been doing a decent number of shoots, and having a lot of fun doing so.

This shoot took place in Central Park, a place that seems to have endless backdrops for those willing to search. This shoot was done in the woods, which provided interesting lighting natural light challenges, but we seemed to do OK.

The model, Suzana, could not have been more fun. She showed up in a amazing outfit and everything about her energy was great. She’s a ballet dancer, which is why she’s wearing what you see in the sampling of photos below.

Two Dogs

Hurricane Irene has come and gone, but not before causing millions of people to be forced to stay indoors for an extended period of time. Heck, I bet some people were in there apartment (in NYC) more than they’ve been in a very long time. After the storm left the city I went for a nice walk and ended up passing these two dogs in SoHo. Amazingly cute, right?

Fashion Blogger Shoots

I’ve been working with various fashion bloggers lately to help build up my portfolio, and to also provide them with new photos for their websites. Here’s  a couple  shots from recent shoots.

“It was an awesome time and he got so many good photos of me; it was hard to choose which ones to share.”

Natural Light

So far, all of my shoots have relied on natural light, which has tons of pros and cons. I’ve enjoyed it though because it can be challenging at times, especially when the sun doesn’t want to cooperate or the shadows of NYC impeded on a shot.

These shots are from a shoot that provided everything from low light to sunlight to tunnel darkness. The model said she came away with “a ton of great shots to choose from,” and that’s fantastic!

And keep in mind that for the most part these shots are untouched and haven’t been heavily edited.

Light to dark.

Very Princess’ish.

Even during casual conversations or moments of laughter… I’m always looking for a shot. Sometimes unplanned shots turn out great.

This shot looks totally different when the front of the bra isn’t exposed. Amazing what a little accent will do.

Pro Model Encounter

I almost completely forgot to share this with you.

While in SoHo a while back I was snapping shots for Fashables street style photos, when I came across this girl wearing a great looking dress. And, she also happened to stand out from most females walking down the sidewalk.

So, as normal, I asked if I could take a few shots and afterwords we started chatting. She eventually told me that her name is Mathilde Frachon and that she is a model.

Well, everyone in NYC seems to be a model, but after consulting with Google I learned that Mathilde isn’t your average model. She’s a pro.

I give a better account of the experience over at Fashables, but thought I should also share the shots here. This experience is one of the many reasons I love street style photography… you never know who you are shooting.

Old Building Shoot

Meet Natalie. I randomly took her photo one day in SoHo for a street style post on Fashables. From there, a photo shoot eventually evolved and some of the shots we captured can be seen below.

The shoot took place on a dark, rainy day in NYC, but we still managed to pull off some good shots.

It’s amazing how adding a little scarf creates texture. I’m also a fan of the yellow popping off the wall.

Again, we were working with very low light. It just so happened that her toenail polish was almost the same color as the orange spot on the wall in the background.

Love this shot. Industrial chic might be a good way to describe it.

“Hey, let’s use that latter as a prop.”

Nothing like a colorful wall of peeling paint to use as a backdrop.

This is just a sampling of the shots we took; I’ll put more up at a later date.

She’s a Musician

This was my first shoot with a musician and we managed to capture some nice shots. She’s not necessarily a “model,” which allowed me to stretch myself and give a decent amount of direction.

As I continue to shoot more and more people I’ve realized just how talented pro models are. They know how to create looks at the snap of a finger… but hey, we can’t all be pro models.

I’m happy to work with people that are new to modeling and help build their confidence along the way.
